Accomodations
Due to the long-term unpredictability of the weather, it is difficult to plan trips in Scotland (see Weather) and therefore accommodation. That's why we prefer camping trips. In Scotland, you can pitch a tent almost anywhere, including private land (although savoir avivre requires you to politely ask the owner for permission). The exceptions are some national parks, where you can pay a fine for pitching a tent without a permit, so it's worth making sure where you plan to stay. We sometimes visit campsites because sometimes we need to take a shower or recharge our equipment. The prices of camping on such can vary drastically - from 'what grace' as in Glen Rosa on the island of Arran, to 50 pounds per night on a large field with an electricity connection (the so-called Hook-up) - here is an important information - electricity at the campsite is supplied by a special plug, so it is worth having an adapter for normal sockets.
